Geropsychology organizations with mentoring programs

Psychologists in Long-Term Care (PLTC)

PLTC has a mentorship program to promote connection between its members. The PLTC mentorship committee, formed in 2011 and led by Erlene Rosowsky, Mary Lewis, Natalie Brescian, and Stacy Ogbeide, developed the program to facilitate professional networking among members by offering a structured avenue for knowledge-sharing and support. Through a careful process, mentees and mentors who work in long term care are matched based on level of training, interests, career preferences, and specific requests. The program is designed such that the formal mentoring relationships extends over the course of one year, whereupon pairs can continue contact if desired. Contact Dr. Mary Lewis to find out more ([email protected]).

Society of Clinical Geropsychology, APA Division 12, Section II (12/II)

The 12/II Mentoring Committee was established with the goal of enhancing the quality and availability of mentoring within clinical geropsychology.  As the population ages, the need for well-trained clinical geropsychologists is growing; mentors can play a key role in expanding this workforce.  Mentoring involves pairing a more experienced person with a less experienced person for the purpose of imparting skills and providing advice and guidance that will help the less experienced person move to the next level.  Mentoring can take place in the context of both short-term and long-term relationships, formal and informal, at any level of training from undergraduate through professional, and in any domain, including clinical as well as research activities.  Activities of the Mentoring Committee have focused on surveying current mentoring practices and programs, and disseminating information through publications, presentations and a website.  Contact Julia Kasl-Godley ([email protected]) to find out more!
